You Don't Need a Website. You Need This Instead
How to exploit a single landing page for full-time income
Read time: 6 minutes
Here’s our TTT for this week on how to grow your online teaching business.
What is TTT? A Tip, Takeaway, and Task. On Thursday.
Today’s read will take you about 6 minutes.
Enjoy!
Tip: Don’t waste your time building a website
Every person you ask likely gives you a different answer.
Yes! You definitely need a website.
No! It’s a waste of time. Don’t do it.
Let’s settle this once and for all: no, you don’t need a website.
But it helps to have some online presence.
Before we go any further, let’s take a minute to define a few things.
Let’s use a book as an analogy. Without being overly existential, what is a book? Some books are 1500 pages (thank you Stephen King) while others can be only a few dozen, or even fewer.
At its core, a book is a collection of individual pages.
This is exactly what a website is. And in a website’s case, the pages are called “landing pages.” Some websites have two pages, others two hundred.
And that’s why you don’t need a website - at the beginning.
But you do need a landing page.
Takeaway: You can create an impactful landing page in 30 minutes or less
If you’re at the beginning of your teacherpreneur journey, this is all you need. Perhaps you’re just starting altogether. Maybe you’re curating a new niche. You might be launching a brand new offer.
A single landing page is absolutely all you need.
One place people can come to and in ten seconds or less, learn about you, what you do, and who you help.
Oh, and drop their email to learn more.
That’s it.
And don’t even think about paying someone else to do this for you. With all the great tools available today, you can set this up for yourself in 30 minutes or less, and completely free. More on this below.
Here are two examples of our landing pages:
1. For our free email course on setting up your own teacherpreneur business
2. For our free Dogme ELT training.
If you feel yourself compelled to build a full website, pause and ask yourself why.
Oftentimes, this is imposter syndrome poking through. Building a website can make us feel busy and occupied so that we don’t have to do the things that make us feel uncomfortable. At the beginning, this is usually getting out and talking to people about what we have to sell.
A good landing page takes you less than 30 minutes to design so you can spend all your time selling your offer.
Task: Set up your landing page today
And now it’s time for action. If you don’t have a landing page for your business, you should by the time your head hits the pillow tonight.
This involves two of our absolute favourite and powerful tools, and both are free: Carrd for your landing page and MailerLite for your email marketing.
Here’s what you need to do. This should take you 60 minutes.
Step 1: Create a free Carrd Account
Step 2: Set up a landing page
Drag and drop to your satisfaction.
Step 3: Set up a MailerLite account
Step 4: Drag and drop a “form” onto your Carrd landing page.
Step 5: Connect that form to your MailerLite account.
Step 6: Grow your audience by sending everyone to that page.
Now, every time someone puts their email there, it goes straight to your email marketing system.
Warning: this is the easy part. The hard part is sending them something worthwhile to keep them around and become more interested in you.
More on that next week (see what we did there?)
For more features with Carrd, get the pro plan for only $19/year (yes, per year!). Carrd is our favourite landing page provider for teacherpreneurs just starting.
Take the focus off of busy work and put emphasis on productive work.
We hope this helps.
See you again next week.
